What Is It Like Climbing at Boulder Box?

Small, clean, air-conditioned, and full of good people.

It feels like home

This one came up more than anything. We're a small gym, and we like it that way. Alexandre called us "human sized," which might be our new favourite description. Small means you get to know people fast, and people get to know you.

Dan came back to Vietnam after 25 years away and looked us up to check out the local climbing scene. He wrote that even as a stranger, we "treated me like family." Reading that made our whole week.

The crew is on your side

Our staff are climbers too, and they're there to help. Shen gave a shoutout to Ha at the front desk. Benedict spent a quiet Monday with our crew and said they made the whole experience more enjoyable. Dan mentioned the team helped him find his way around the problems and even gave him beta.

That's exactly what we want. Nobody should feel lost at Boulder Box.

The setting is the real deal

Dan said our problems "display the setters passion and attention to details." Shen loved the setting style. Joe had heard our setters are some of the best in the city, which we're not going to argue with.

Joe also noticed how much we fit into a small space: slab, overhangs, a cave, a problem that climbs between the two walls of our walkway, and an endurance traverse that goes all the way around the gym. And because we reset one wall every Monday, there's always something new to try.

It's clean, and yes, there's air-con

Clean came up in almost every review. Shen, Benedict and Dan all mentioned it. We also have air-con (a big deal in Saigon heat), toilets, showers, a warm-up area, and training gear like a hangboard and campus board.

Not too busy, not too empty

Joe came on a Tuesday evening with about seven other climbers around and called it "a perfect amount." Benedict came on a Monday morning and had the place almost to himself. If you like a quiet session, weekday daytimes are your friend.

Easy to get to

Dan pointed out that we're right next to shops and places to eat. Climb, then grab food. That's a pretty good afternoon.

Cant believed it’s been 25 years since I’ve been back to Vietnam. Being a climber of course I have to explore the climbing scene of Vietnam and my local community. The climbing community is friendly, passionate, and honest. Bouldering Box Saigon is all that and more! Although I might be a foreigner and stranger to them they treated me like family and show immense hospitality. Special Thanks to the staffs that works there! They helped me navigate the routes. They even assisted me with beta! The location is prime next to multiple store outlet and food options. The facility is immaculate with AC, WC, and training/warm up area. The routes themselves are well thought out and display the setters passion and attention to details. I would highly recommend if you’re in the area and want to try something new or novice climber this is the place for you. Thanks for reading !!

Went Monday morning 11am till about 3. Really fun especially since I had the place to myself, only had Du and Hi (hope I spelt their names right) there. They were really friendly and helpful, and it made the whole experience much more enjoyable! They have a toilet and showers in the back, and the gym was cosy and clean. It was definitely worth the trip out!

5/5 bouldering gym. Although the gym was relatively small with only three walls, there were plenty of problem routes with a wide variety of wall types (slab, overhangs, cave, etc). They had a route that went between the two walls of a walkway, and an endurance traverse that went around the whole gym. So they really know how to utilize the space. They also had the typical warm up, hang board and campus gear. I heard the route-setters here are the best in the city. The staff and other members were all super friendly and welcoming. I went on a Tuesday evening and there were about ~7 people. So neither crowded nor empty, a perfect amount imo. This would definitely be my gym of choice for a membership if/when I move to Saigon.
